Symphony Orchestra
The Symphony Orchestra is the premier ensemble of our program, composed of dedicated student musicians in grades 9–12 who audition for the opportunity to perform at the highest level. This flagship group represents our school in public performances, special events and adjudicated festivals, showcasing advanced repertoire and musical excellence. Members of the Symphony Orchestra are leaders in our program, setting the tone for artistry, collaboration, and commitment.
Concert Orchestra
The Concert Orchestra offers students in grades 10–12 a dynamic environment to continue developing their musical skills while engaging in enriching academic opportunities such as the state orchestra and solo and ensemble festivals. This ensemble bridges growth and performance, challenging students with meaningful repertoire and preparing them for advanced musical experiences. Concert Orchestra members are valued contributors to our program’s success and spirit.
Philharmonic Orchestra
The Philharmonic Orchestra welcomes incoming freshmen into the high school music community, providing a supportive space to build confidence, technique, and ensemble skills. While the music is tailored to their experience level, expectations for focus, effort, and growth remain high. This ensemble helps students transition smoothly into the high school orchestra culture, laying a strong foundation for future success and inviting them into the Blue Springs South Orchestral Program!
Director of Orchestras
Jamey Mitchell is a passionate music educator with over two decades of experience. He currently serves as Director of Orchestras at Moreland Ridge Middle School and Blue Springs South High School. A graduate of the University of Alabama, the University of Wisconsin–Madison and Northwest Missouri State University, Jamey is also an accomplished musician, performing with ensembles such as the Kansas City Symphony and the Grammy-nominated Fountain City Brass Band. Passionate about fostering musical excellence and life skills through orchestra, Jamey is dedicated to creating a supportive, team-oriented environment where students thrive.
